DIY: Twisted Low Bun

1

Remember that super cute updo from The Daily Sugar’s post early this month? Check it out here– we’re still obsessing over this look. You loved her hairstyle so much that we just had to get the how-to! The best? It’s super easy for your morning madness and will shine from day-to-night.  Scroll for the simple steps, and then visit her blog for some clothing inspo to go along with your new ‘do:

Materials:
  • Bobby Pins
  • Hair Tie
  • Hair Spray
Instructions:
  1. First, take a large section of hair from one side of your head and gently twist it backwards.
  2. Bobby pin that section of your hair to secure the twist you created. You want all of your pieces to be secure against your head and not loose, hanging in front of your face.
  3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 with a large section of hair from the other side of your head.
  4.  Gather your hair in a loose, low ponytail and secure it with a hair tie.
  5.  In the hair above the hair tie, create a part. Use your fingers to pull the hair apart and create a “hole”.
  6. Lift your low ponytail up, then take it down and pull it through the hole to create a twist in the sides of your hair. This will be the most confusing step. Don’t worry, you might have to try it a few times to get it just right!
  7. Once you pull your hair through the hole, you will have a nicely twisted low ponytail. Take the ponytail and tuck it up into twisted top that you created. Use bobby pins to secure the ends of your hair to your head and make sure that a low bun is created and your ends are hidden.
  8. Take little pieces out of the bun and fasten them around the bun to create a more twisted, messy look. This is your chance to make the bun look how you want it to. There is not one way to do it, just experiment!
  9. Hairspray your entire look, front to back and you are now finished! Now go out and rock it!1

How to Wear – Wide Leg Pants

how to wear

One of our favorite trends has returned – wide leg pants! This trend is comfy, cute, but notoriously difficult to style. Have you been lusting after a patterned pair but totally unsure what to wear it with? Read on for some tips to style your wide leg pants from classic casual to boho to glam celebrity.

1

A simple way to style a pair of wide leg pants is with a basic crop top and flat sandals. This look is adorable, but secretly feels just like wearing sweats! Add a metal bangle for a final touch.

2

Kick it up a notch by topping off your wide leg pants with a cool shirt, like this trendy crochet tank. A bold necklace and wedge heel make this look still casual, but with an edge. This look is perfect for a music festival or a normal summer day!

3

Wide leg pants are perfect for evening too, if you know how to style it! A pair of glam heels dresses these pants up in a flash. Add a belt and a clutch for a look that works for any occasion!

Mani Monday– Tie Dye Nail Art

Tie dye is always on trend! Rock Mani Monday with this fun and easy how-to by our fave nail art blogger, Wondrously Polished, created specially for our Deb girls!

Whether it’s on a dress or on my nails, tie dye never ceases to make me happy! I’ve got an easy how-to inspired by one of my favorite maxi dresses for spring and summer that will work from the beach to your favorite music festival!

wondrous1

w2

1. Paint your nails your favorite white polish and let dry completely. I love OPI’s My Boyfriend Scales Walls.

2. Next, grab a light turquoise polish (like China Glaze’s For Audrey) and paint vertical lines of varying lengths at the tip of each nail.

w3

3. Use a dark blue polish like OPI’s I Saw…U Saw…We Saw…Warsaw to add short vertical lines near your cuticles. Don’t paint too far down your nail as you want to leave some white space in this look.

4. With a cobalt blue, like Essie’s Butler Please, paint vertical lines that partially cover the dark blue ones. Be sure to leave a little bit of white showing through between the cobalt and the turquoise color.

w4

5. With your white base polish, paint short vertical lines between the cobalt blue and the turquoise. This will help create a more natural tie dye blend between the two colors.

6. Finally, finish off your mani with your favorite top coat and enjoy your hard work!

Now Trending– Prints

This season is all about standing out! Electrify your look this season with prints that are bolder than bold. From Aztec to tropical, we love an all over printed look. Don’t stop at tees and tanks– jumpsuits, dresses, pants, and skirts are all getting the printed treatment. Go for a more subtle look with a black and white print and add coral accessories. This chic look will go from day to night in a snap. Bright colors more your thing? Take it all the way with neons that will outshine the sun. Shop this trend now!

Mani Monday– Ombre Polka Dots

Dot up your Mani Monday with this fun and easy how-to by our fave nail art blogger, Wondrously Polished, created specially for our Deb girls!

With Spring now here, I’m constantly looking for bright new designs that make me happy. Coral is one such color that never fails to brighten my mood (or make me look tan!) and when I spotted this adorable dress, I knew I had to do something like it for today’s tutorial! I’ve combined a few of my favorite techniques to create today’s look and love how it all came together.

Final1

step1

1. Begin by painting your nails a light orange/coral color and let dry completely. I like to use a fast dry top coat at this point to speed things up.

2. Cut a makeup sponge into quarters (this makes it easier to work with) and dampen it slightly in water. Use your base polish and a darker orange/coral polish to paint stripes onto your makeup sponge. Letting the colors blend slightly will create a smoother gradient.

step2

3. Carefully roll the makeup sponge over your nail with the dark polish towards the tip. Reapply polish to the sponge.

4. Repeat these steps until you reach an opacity that you like. Move the makeup sponge up and down vertically (towards your cuticle then towards the nail tip) to create a better blend in the two polishes.

step3

5. Next, add a top coat. This will smooth out the gradient and make it look even more blended. Adding the top coat before your cleanup will ensure that you don’t accidentally remove the gradient you just worked hard to create in the next step.

6. Use a cotton swab dipped in acetone (regular nail polish remove doesn’t work as well) to clean up the excess polish on your skin.

**Gradients are fun to wear on their own, so this is a perfect stopping point if you’d like. Or, read on to see how I finished this look off.

step4

7. With a light pink polish, use a dotting tool to add evenly spaced dots down the center of your nail.

8. Add two more rows of dots, this time with the dots shifted slightly down, so they land between each dot you previously created.

step5

9. Add one final row of dots, shifting them again.

10. Finally, add your favorite top coat to protect your hard work, and enjoy!

How to Wear– Skater Skirts

Looking for a fresh way to style that skater skirt you’ve got lying around in your closet? With a few new pieces, your tried-and-true skirt will feel brand new! Here, we’ll show you how to style a solid skater skirt four different ways for four completely new looks this spring.

boho

Necklace | Wedges | Sunglasses | Bag

Earthy accessories make this simple skirt perfectly boho, fitting with the return of the Festival trend this season. The wedges, fringed bag and adorable round frame sunnies will get so much wear this season, and the statement necklace is sure to become one of your fave pieces to show off!

casual cool

Sunglasses | Top | Sneakers

This casual cool look is perfect for a low key day this spring. The skater skirt shines when paired with a graphic tee and cute low top sneakers, and the chain sunglasses pull the whole look together! This effortless look is so easy, but is one of our favorite ways to dress down a skater skirt for every day wear.

preppy

Heels | Necklace | Bag

Neutrals are huge this season, and look oh so fresh with this classic skirt. A neutral pair of pumps can go with anything this spring, and a crisp white bag is a must. The statement necklace is still big, and this neutral palate will dress up even the simplest of outfits!

night

Top | Clutch | Necklace | Heels

A skater skirt might be your go-to for a night out, but really stand out among the rest with this cool chambray skirt paired with a simple lace crop top and strappy pumps. The sparkly envelope bag is so clutch, and with the crystal stone statement necklace you’ll feel like a true star. It is possible to dress up a more casual piece (like the denim skirt) just by adding some new accessories!
